I’m Hannah, a San Francisco-based reporter and editor with nearly a decade of experience covering California politics and policy, along with its fascinating characters and big personalities. It’s a dream job, with everyday bringing something new to learn and report from all corners of this Golden State.
My current role is deputy politics editor at the San Francisco Standard, an online news organization founded in 2021 that has quickly emerged as an essential source of breaking news and political, tech and culture coverage. I spend half my time reporting on state politics and political figures, including Gov. Gavin Newsom. The other half is spent editing a team of reporters focused on San Francisco City Hall and its infamous cutthroat politics, which includes overseeing our flagship political newsletter Power Play.
I previously served as a state enterprise reporter for the Los Angeles Times, where I covered the Bay Area and North Coast — a massive beat that took me from the back of a Bodega Bay crab boat to the redwood forests of Humboldt County and San Quentin’s death row. I also spent several years covering the state Capitol in Sacramento for The Times and the Sacramento Bee, a dynamic role that included covering presidential, state and local campaigns.
My work has been recognized by the Los Angeles Press Club, the Sacramento Press Club, the San Francisco Press Club, and the California News Publishers Association, among other organizations.
